The Governor of the Zlín Region is the outward representative of the region. However, governor may not execute acts that must be approved by the board or the council unless these acts have been approved. Governor appoints and revokes the director of the regional office (if agreed by the Minister of the Interior), s/he establishes special bodies if authorized to do so, s/he is responsible for keeping the public informed about the region's activities etc. Governor summons and usually also presides over the sessions of the regional board and council.

 Curriculum vitae

  • The governor was born on 9 November 1952 as the third of eleven children in Popov in South-East Vallachia on the Moravian-Slovakian border.
  • After completing veterinary studies at the Secondary School of Agriculture in Kroměříž in 1972, and the University of Veterinary Science in 1978, he worked as a veterinary for 16 years in various functions ranging from a cattle breeder on a farm, a district veterinary, to a head of the District Veterinary Centre in Zlín and finally to a director of the Veterinary Sanitation Institute in Otrokovice.
  • In the first local elections in 1989, he became a member of the Municipal Assembly in Otrokovice where he has been living since 1980. In 1994 he was elected the mayor of Otrokovice, just like four years later.
  • In the local elections of 2002, he gained the confidence of constituents and became the mayor of Otrokovice for the third time. In a sweeping victory, the Social Democratic Party gained 10 out of 25 seats. The Social Democratic Party won also in the following elections in 2006. In this election period, Stanislav Mišák became the deputy mayor of Otrokovice.
  • Since 2000 he has been a member of the Zlín Region Board of Representatives. From 1 March 2006, he worked as the Deputy Governor of the Zlín Region responsible for strategic development and investments.
  • Following the prevailing victory of the Social Democratic Party in the regional elections, on 12 November 2008 he was elected the Governor of the Zlín Region.
  • Stanislav Mišák and his wife Pavla have two children and one grandchild. Their daughter Petra is also a veterinary and their son Stanislav graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technical University in Ostrava where he finalized his doctoral studies and now works on his senior lecturership.
  • He has been a member of the Social Democratic Party since February 1998, a chairman of the regional club of the SDP representatives and a member of the presidium of the SDP Regional Executive Committee.
